Colors and Collaboration

Posted in Colored, the works by R.L. Bertulfo, II on October 20, 2009

I’ve been meaning to color some of my pieces for quite some time now and been asking my artist friends to maybe pitch around and color some of my work though pathetic my sketches are. Recently, an online friend helped me out in fulfilling just that. A couple of emails here and there resulted in a informal art collaboration of sorts. We at SDR Comics are happy that she came on board and lend her coloring skills to us  and  she will be coloring over Suede’s art for the upcoming Sugbo Jam Komiks No. 1 to be released hopefully end of the month or early this November and lets just keep  our fingers crossed. Might I say she’s done some cool stuff to the sample art that I sent her. My flat lifeless sketches now have a semblance of completeness to them and for that I am pretty thankful to Melon for her wonderful colors. Here’s some of it. Hope you enjoy.

Yesterday’s Drink and Draw

Posted in blog filler, cebu by R.L. Bertulfo, II on October 18, 2009

It’s 2:00 a.m. and can’t sleep, might as well post something here seeing that the last time I post was almost 3 weeks ago and I am a pathetic blogger when it comes to updating this blog but all the while in my head I always been meaning to post something here and there but the great head of productive procrastination always rears its ugly head. Anyways, the SDR crew attended yet again another fun Drink and Draw session with some local komikeros at Gerry’s Grill Ayala Center Cebu yesterday. We met up with two of the awesome podsters of Tres Komikeros,  the great John and Alex,  and also with sketch card queen Kat. Seven all in all were in attendance and the theme for the drawing was a “creature feature” and all I ever sketch was a pathetic looking man-crab creature on steriods, I guess I was not into the drawing bit and was more into the drinking bit that day either way I  had fun. Here are some pics from the meet up and my pathetic sketch (I’ll make it up next time guys).

Wheres Wally?!

Where's Wally?!

Wheres Wally again?!

OMG! Here comes Mr. Crab! Spongebob save Us!!!

OMG! Here comes Mr. Crab! Spongebob save Us!!!

I am terribly rusty, gotta snap out of my unproductivity and draw gaddammnit!

Sugbo Jam Komiks No. 1 is almost the done, the pages are all set hopefully within the week we get to release this baby out.

Sketch Card try out pt.1

Posted in fan art, sketch card by R.L. Bertulfo, II on September 23, 2009

Last Saturday’s meet up with Cebuano Komikeros made an impression on me and the boys specially the awesome John was there, but what intrigued us was what the great Kat was doing and making money out of and that is drawing sketch cards. It peaked our interest to no end and made us decide to practice on doing some of it ourselves for kicks and maybe some due compensation. Aside from the Sugbo Jam deadline we manage yet again to make room for trying out on drawing on a typical sketch card of 2.5×3.5 inch board and to think drawing on huger paper was hard this one seems harder. To cram something on a tiny drawing area is a feat in itself and just by looking at forums and other related sites on the matter those guys are pretty damn good at it, skething, inking and to coloring it all in there. Kudos. Below are my feeble attempts at doing a sketch card art minus the colors for now till I find some suitably cheap yet effective marker to color it with. Hope I can pull it off.
