Hey Logan, overdid them hair now do we?

Hey Logan, overdid them hair now do we?

Just like friend Suede, been awhile since I flexed my drawing muscles lately even though I still got a way overdue sequential to be submitted for the Sugbo Jam Comics breathing down my neck and the project itself is way overdue as targetted by the SDR Crew. Well, here’s an improved sketch (compared from a previous post) of my fave knucklehead James Howlett. By the way, got tired of my old signature and liking this one instead and I think its a keeper :) . I won’t babble on too much this time besides, I don’t have anything interesting to say this time. Comments are much appreciated folks :) . Thanks for dropping by.

Updates and then the usual SDR meet up

Posted in SDR Comics, sketches by R.L. Bertulfo, II on August 22, 2009

Yesterday was a holiday, me and the SDR Boys did our almost weekly meet up and discuss all things SDR related and future shindigs and whip our pen and inks and doodle amidst the chitchat. This time, like the last one, we hung out at McDo Jones and out of thin air decided to draw Hellboy. And here is what I came up with together with a Captin N12 sketch I gave to Motmot to ink on someday:

Updates:

Been busy since last night doing Page 2 and 3 of my soon to be submission for the anthology and by golly the self imposed deadline is almost up and due next week. Hope the gods favor me this time and get my lazy @$$ up and running till I cap it off with page 6. Probably post it tomorrow some pathetic previews. I actually revised page 1 from scratch yesterday and I am quite ok with the revised one.

Another thing, my 3-page collaboration with Zerulean is 50% done, meaning he already finished pencilling it and now its up to me to ink and put them captions and balloons. Can’t wait to start inking on it tomorrow. It will be awesome.

Finally, the SDR Comics will hopefully finalize a contract next week to a well known comics outlet in Manila if all goes well and eventually Captin N12 Issue No. 1 will be available to our tagalog speaking brothers out there. I’m excited already. Wish us luck guys and ghouls.

Nuff said. :)

Sketchercise Tuesday 5-OMG! Limbless!

Look Ma! No Hands...and Feet!Yay!

Look Ma! No Hands...and Feet!Yay!

Wow, the last sketchercise I did was last first week of July, hmmmmm. That bad huh. Anyways, here’s a sketch I did tonight after furiously tackling page 2 of my soon to be submitted sequentials for the upcoming SDR Comics anthology slated this September. Furiously because I only went so far as to do preliminary rough pencil layouts and a mess full of erasers later decided to give up and proceeded to flesh out a character study of the antagonist of the six pager and then I unfortunately came up with this big hump of lug….with no limbs so to speak of….seriously. Pathetic but at the least I got to flex my lazy a$$ed drawing muscles. I guess I still haven’t overcome the fear of messing up the hands and feet on my lineart. Tomorrow may I fare better. Wish me luck!

Oldies but Goodies pt. 2-inks and a sketch

Posted in geeks, inks, sketches, the works by R.L. Bertulfo, II on July 23, 2009

You can read the first part of this post here or just freely browse the blog. :)

I have nothing better to post, been busy with finishing the Captin N12 Issue 1 dialogues/script and I was not able to sketch last week and unfortunately this week so what better lousy way to compensate by posting old fart art/sketches that I did way back 10 or so friggin years ago, pathetic me. I rarely do fan art then than now so most of what I found from my old boxes were some character studies or profile of what I (and the Zerulean, which will be part 3 of this post) happen to cook up with in me brain,  lots of ideas then on having my own superhero team or a really cool character or two then and maybe, just maybe I will resurrect and get to finish one of them now that me and the boys have our own do-it-yourself comic book house the Super Debil Robot Comics which I profusely advertise in my recent post nowadays. Image Comics was so popular then and it is evident in my sketches. Here we go:

Some YoungBlood influenced characters don’t ya thunk?! (Badrock ?)

This one I called the Emissary and I was hooked up with some Wild C.A.T.s storyline then, I forgot already.

This hear is Razorback (he is also in this previous blog post here), a pretty nifty combo of Cyber Force’s RipClaw and WildCat’s Warblade. I overly thinking of resurrecting him now.

I really thought Marc Silvestri’s Ascension character was cool and David Finch’s art rocks and still is so I made one me self which greatly influenced a comic book one shot 6 pager story that I did which the lineart work that I did was lost for all eternity en route hand carried by a friend of mine to be submitted to a Popcorn-esque comic book magazine here in Cebu then. Angels and demons have a special place in my heart also.

Another angel and demon piece, not inked, only pencilled this one and don’t have the heart to ink it for I was afraid I’d ruined it. This is the only piece that I thought I made a decent looking babe, and a demon babe for that matter and sideways and hugging the dude, and…ah, nevermind.

Here was my not so many attempts at doing sequentials with the Razorback character. Just a fight scene with no real concrete backgrounds hehhehehe. Lousy. I am still not comfy with doing a sequential now. Must muster up the courage soonest as possible or Motex will kick my arse. :)

That’s it then for part deux, f.y.i. I only scanned the most decent one that I could find, others was next to nada. Next post will be the collab we did back then when we were still in college with good old friend Zerulean.

The Maxx is giving you the Finger!since issue number one

The Maxx is giving you the Finger!since issue number one

Hello folks, fear not, I am not through with updating this blog just yet. Just loosing steam is all. Been busy catchin up on my comics reading lately and took most of my time. I got to do this piece tonight after I helped a good friend scan his cool sketches to put up on his blog. It’s almost midnight and I am sleepy but fortunately I finished this baby up. For the uninitiated, this here is the Maxx, Sam Kieth’s most popular creation and one of my all time favorite read in comics. A homeless guy who thinks he is a rabbit and is Julie’s spirit animal (if I am not mistaken). that protects her from the outside and the metaphysical world that they happen to exist upon and all the wierd things in between panels. I just don’t why I like this big lug but early on when this character came out of Image I’ve been constantly updating on it and all things Sam Kieth in general. His comics are not your run of the mill type. Veering more on the indie and not the superheroic.

————————————-

Just an update, Captain N12 release will be hopefully this end of July 20o9 as scheduled and I am asked by the great Motmot to help him out in the dialogue bit over the week and psyched up on that but unfortunately I am still unable to do some sequentials and all I got to contribute to the release will be a pin-up as stated on my previous post, a bad thing, geez. Lazy/coward me I suppose but atleast I get to contribute something to SDR Comics in general. I wonder how the Suede is doing :)
